Turn Easter into a Treasure Hunt!

Your Easter Egg hunt can become a full-blown adventure story with rhyming clues!

Few childhood memories are as exciting as the thrill of a treasure hunt—and Easter is the perfect time to create that magic. Instead of simply scattering eggs around the yard, why not turn your Easter egg hunt into a full-blown adventure story? With rhyming clues tucked inside each egg, your kids can follow a trail of riddles that leads them from one hiding spot to the next, building excitement with each reveal until they reach the grand finale.

This guide will walk you through how to set up a rhyming clue treasure hunt using common household and yard locations. It’s simple to pull off, incredibly fun, and will make this Easter one they’ll never forget.

What You'll Need:

  • Plastic Easter eggs (1 per clue, plus an optional prize egg at the end)

  • Paper (for printing or writing the rhyming couplets)

  • Small treats or trinkets (optional, to go inside the eggs)

  • Tape or stickers (optional, to keep eggs closed in outdoor spots)

  • The below list of rhyming clues--or ones you create yourself

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Pick Your Clue Locations

Read through the rhyming couplets below and choose the ones that match places in your house or yard. You’ll need one clue per hiding spot. A 10–15 clue hunt is a great length, but even 5 will feel like an adventure!

2. Prepare the Clue Strips

Print or handwrite each clue on a strip of paper small enough to fit inside a plastic egg. You can roll or fold the clues to keep them tidy.

3. Stuff the Eggs

Place each clue inside an egg. You can also add a small piece of candy or a sticker for extra fun. Make sure to keep the clues in the correct order so the hunt flows smoothly!

4. Hide the Eggs in Order

The first clue goes in the starter egg, which you’ll give to your child to begin the hunt. The clue in Egg 1 will lead to the hiding spot for Egg 2, and so on. Keep going until the final egg, which can contain a prize or simply a message of congratulations!

Example:

  • Egg 1 (starter): Clue leads to the lamp

    • Egg 2 (hidden by the lamp): Clue leads to the toilet paper roll

    • Egg 3 (hidden by the toilet paper): Clue leads to the toy chest

    • ...and so on, ending with a grand finale!

5. Start the Adventure!

Hand your child the starter egg and let them take it from there. Watch the delight build as they race from clue to clue, laughing, puzzling, and discovering each secret spot.
