Artist Workshop: Juneteenth Zines with Lillian Young*

Join us for an exciting day exploring Juneteenth with artist Lillian Young! Her Black Elder Archive features a portrait of Opal Lee, the “grandmother of Juneteenth.” Learn more about Lee through art, readalouds, and video: then create your own zines with textured paper and markers.

Life in Harlem Community Mural

Jacob Lawrence’s art tells stories of hardship, strength, and hope. Create and collaborate on a community mural inspired by his lively pictures of life in Harlem and the fight for civil rights as we celebrate the diversity of our community.

Who is in your community? Celebrate those you love by drawing details onto people-shaped cutouts and gluing them onto gingham patterned paper to have a celebratory picnic!
